Ann's Story

Durham, NH - Ann K. Valpey, 85, formerly of Durham and currently residing in Strafford died December 11, 2017, at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.
Born March 1, 1932 in Dover, she was the daughter of Bradford M. and Jane (Tuttle) Kingman. She lived in Durham most of her life.
She received her Bachelor's Degree from Carleton College in Minnesota.
While residing in Andover, Mass., one of Ann's greatest joys was her time spent as a teacher's aide at The Christ Church Professional Nursery for the Handicapped, currently known as The Professional Center for Child Development. She was also an avid gardener at home and, in recent years, in the gardens of the Moffatt Ladd House, Portsmouth, N.H., owned by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of New Hampshire of which, she was a member.
As an animal lover, Ann especially enjoyed her adopted dog, Frankie, and feeding the birds while keeping a close eye on the horses, goats, and chickens at her daughter's farm. Ann also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Valpey who died in 2004, and her brother, Bradford S. Kingman.
Survivors include her children, Stephen Valpey and his wife, Donna, Carrie Hartranft and her husband, David, Janna Whipple and her husband, Jim, Phil Valpey and his wife, Rene, and Peter Valpey and his wife, Susan Johansson; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane McDonough; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 6, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Governors Inn, 78 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH, followed by a Celebration of Life from 2 to 5 p.m.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 18, in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket, N.H., and on Monday, May 21, in Christ Church Cemetery, Andover, Mass.
