Haverhill - Mr. Anthony J. Zukas, a resident of Haverhill, passed away at the Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill Wednesday, January 16th. He was 102 years old. He was the beloved husband of late Frances (Lewis) Zukas for almost 60 years who passed away in 2000.
Anthony was born in Scranton, PA on August 25,1916, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Veversikas) Zukas.
After finishing high school, Anthony served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Panama during the second World War. After the war, Anthony went to work for Western Electric in Newark, NJ, and eventually moved to Haverhill where he worked as a supervisor until his retirement after 40 years of service with Western Electric and Lucent. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Throughout his entire life, Anthony had many hobbies and interests including astrology, photography, oil painting and golf. Most of all, he loved gardening in his greenhouse where he raised beautiful orchards.
Anthony is survived by daughters, Marlene Chartier and her husband Gary of Plaistow, NH, Janet Sifferlen and her husband Joseph of Atkinson NH, and brothers Vincent and George of Elmira, NY, four grandchildren, Lynn Buckley, Steven Chartier, Eric Sifferlen, Brian Sifferlen, and six great grandchildren, Colin and Parker Chartier, Wyatt and Wesley Sifferlen, Trevor and Hadley Sifferlen.
The family would like to express appreciation to the entire staff at Haverhill Crossings for the outstanding care that Anthony received during his 18 month stay. Anthony expressed to everyone that they were like family.
At the request of Anthony, the funeral services will be private with interment in Linwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill - Bradford. To share a memory or for more information, please visit
