Barbara Ann Quill

Barbara Ann Quill Andover, MA - A life-long Andover and Cambridge resident, Barbara Quill, passed peacefully at her home on November 5, 2018. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
She was born November 1, 1928, in Lawrence, Mass. the youngest of three children born to Jeremiah and Annie (Flaherty) Quill. She was the sister of the late John J. Quill, and sister-in-law of the late Isabel (Anderson) Quill and Sister of the late Kathleen Quill.
She attended Saint Augustine’s Elementary School and graduated from Punchard High School (Andover) in 1945. A graduate of Mt Ida College Class of 1949, she was employed at the Harvard University Business School Admissions Office for 40 years. She retired in 1995.
She was a Devout Catholic and enjoyed her lively conversations over coffee after Sunday and daily Mass with her friends. She enjoyed holidays with her family especially Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations and dinners in Lowell where she developed a reputation as a pilferer extraordinaire of anyone’s dessert within her reach!
Barbara was a devoted sister to Kay Quill with whom she travelled with extensively to social events, professional conferences, reunions and vacations with the many friends and family throughout the country. She loved to drive and would make an annual trip each winter year by car to Florida usually taking a week or so to visit various friends along the way. Barbara loved the beach and the heat. Their annual Florida drive included staying at usual hotels and dining at restaurants developing relationships that they re-kindled every year on their journey south. Often their New England social calendar was so filled they would not get to Florida until summer time leading to good nature chiding in later years.
An avid reader of the Sunday New York Times and various periodicals which she would devour with precision. This kept her well informed and an enjoyable conversationalist. She loved to watch football and talk about politics and the issues of the day. She was a 50 -year subscriber to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed attending cultural events in the City of Boston.
She is survived by Nieces Kathy Gwiazda and her husband David of Lowell, Mass.; Barbara Burgett and her husband Wayne of Hudson NH; Linda Deignan and her husband William of Tewksbury Mass. and Great nieces and nephews, Lisa A. Gwiazda and her husband Matthew Donahue of Lowell; and their children Matthew J, Gregory, Andrew and Peter; David Gwiazda Jr and his wife Alice Gwiazda; Jeff Gwiazda and his wife Shalia Gwiazda and their children Grace and Ben; Katelyn Blake and her husband Timothy Blake and their children Jackson, Charles and Maxwell. Melissa Deignan, Casey (Burgett) Amaral and her husband Scott, Thomas Burgett, and Channell Quill.
She is fondly remembered by her close Florida friends, Mary Andriole, Joseph McManus and Elaine who kept her company and cared for her as she made the trips to Florida after Kay’s passing in 2015.
Family and friends may call on Friday at the Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence Street from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated also on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Augustine Church in Andover, MA. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
