Saint Paul , MN - This elegant, feisty, vivacious, southern belle attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she met her true love,Robert Sonnier.
It was love at first sight for Robert when he caught sight of the beautiful redhead in the peek a boo blouse. They married December 26, 1948. She worked teaching chemistry which she hated (teaching, not chemistry) and then worked in the spectrophotometry lab in Louisville Kentucky. Kentucky was also where she developed her love for cooking and first learned to make her famous Dobosch Torte.
She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. They moved throughout the country – from Jefferson Island, Louisiana, to Louisville Kentucky, to St. Clair, Michigan to North Andover.
Along the way they had two brilliant and beautiful daughters, Catherine and Elizabeth, who later married two handsome and hardworking men, Ed and Paul.
Later in life, she referred to her years in North Andover as her best years. It was in North Andover where she and Robert raised their family, took up tennis and golf, became seasoned travelers and most importantly developed an eclectic, fascinating, kind and generous group of friends that became their second family.
Following the sudden death of her husband at an early age, Bobbye persevered and became an international traveler and tour director. Her travels took her to Tibet (where she loved a good yak burger), to Africa (where a group of baboons stole her underwear), to Russia, Norway, Thailand, and beyond. Once again she found a second family in her traveling buddies.
More than traveling, she loved spending time with her grandchildren – Jackson, Genevieve and Aidan.
In her later years, she moved to Maine to be near her daughter Catherine and son in law Ed, and then to Minnesota where she resided at the Waters of Highland Park just around the corner from her daughter Elizabeth and son in law, Paul.
Her Daughters, Catherine and Elizabeth, sons-in-law, Paul and Ed and grandchildren, Genevieve, Jackson and Aidan would like to thank the friends and family in Maine and St. Paul who opened their hearts and homes to Bobbye along with the wonderful residents and staff of the Waters of Highland Park for filling Bobbye's last years with joy and meaning.
A celebration of life and love for Bobbye and Robert is planned for October 27 in Lafayette, LA.
