Benjamin J.'s Story
Benjamin J. Guzzone, Sr., formerly of Lawrence, passed away October 3, 2017, in his home in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was born July 23, 1941, the son of Italian immigrants, the late Joseph and Josephine (Presti) Guzzone. As a talented athlete at Lawrence High School, he lettered in three varsity sports, baseball, basketball and football. He was a member of the football team who played against Miami Edison High School in Florida in 1957. After high school, he was recruited by many major colleges to play football. However, he opted to play basketball at Merrimack College. He was later named to the Greater Lawrence Hall of Fame.
He was a salesman by profession, selling high end foods to hotels, institutions and restaurants. Eventually, he and a partner formed their own company serving North and Central Florida.
He was married for 54 years to Lucille (Bova), also formerly of Lawrence. He leaves three children, Kim Collier (Chip), Ben, Jr. (Leslie), and Kerri Mathews (Jeremy). He had eight grandchildren, Cole, Lindsey, Kirra, Tre, Brayden, Ryder, Walker and Roxy. He is also survived by two sisters, Angelina Lyons of Salem, N.H., and Phyllis Palermo (James) of Spring Branch, Texas; his mother-in-law, Jennie Bova; and sister-in-law, Jeannette Salvo ( Joseph), both of Methuen, and several nieces and nephews.
