C. (Charles) Cabot's Story
C. (Charles) Cabot Easton, a 50-year resident of Andover passed away peacefully on July 12, 2017, following a lengthy illness. During recent weeks Cabot had been continually surrounded by his loving family, the caring staff of Putnam Farm in Danvers and Care Dimensions Hospice.
Cabot, or “Cab” as he was known by friends, was born to Charles Easton and Edith Cabot in Cambridge, Mass., in 1926. He spent his childhood in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School in 1948. An all-season track participant, Cabot graduated from Bowdoin College in 1948. A loyal Bowdoin alumnus, Cabot was permanent Secretary of his class and chaired class reunions until 2008.
As a commissioned officer, Cabot spent the Korean War in Army Security in Japan, retiring from the Army Reserve as Captain in 1964. Thereafter he commenced a career in educational fundraising beginning at his alma mater, Bowdoin College, and retiring after serving more than thirty years in leadership roles in Development at Harvard both at the School of Design and Harvard Law School.
An active member of West Parish Church in Andover for 49 years, he chaired the Life Planning Committee, served on the Stewardship Ministry and served on the United Church of Christ National Stewardship Council. In a fund-raising campaign Cabot chaired for the Methuen Memorial Music Hall, significant renovations were made to the recital hall.
Each year Cabot looked forward to summertime family gatherings in the Belgrade Lakes area of Maine, enjoying multi-generation activities and the natural world.
Cabot is survived by his beloved wife, Ruby Easton, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage; his devoted children, Martha Easton (Patrick Sullivan) of Princeton, N.J., Mark Easton (Rosa Kwon) of Palos Verdes, Calif., and Margaret Watson (Richard Watson) of Sudbury, Mass.; as well as much-loved grandchildren, Aidan and Emily Sullivan, Matthew and Claire Easton, and Caroline and Sarah Watson.
A Celebration of Life Service honoring Cabot will be held on Sunday, August 13, at 2 p.m. at West Parish Church, 129 Reservation Road, Andover, MA.
