Charles F.'s Story
DERRY, NH - Charles F. Gendreau Sr., 83 of Derry, N.H., passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018, in the Academy Manor Nursing Home, Andover, Mass. He was born in Lowell, Mass., a son of the late Albert and Margaret (Perry) Gendreau.
Mr. Gendreau proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. He later served 12 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked as a carpenter for Raytheon for 35 years. Mr. Gendreau was a very talented woodworker and was a genius working with his hands; he could fix anything. He was an avid bowler, and golfer, and was known and remembered for his stark blue eyes.
He is survived by a son, Charles F. Gendreau Jr., and his wife, Katalin, of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Christina M. Kuhn, and her husband, Scott, of E. Hampstead, N.H., and Lauri-Ann Sousa, of Derry; seven grandchildren, Tara, Charles III, Adam, Deanna, Victoria, Timothy and Madelyn; three great-grandchildren, Donovan, Joslyn, and Anthony Joseph; two brothers, Raymond Gendreau, of Dracut, Mass., and Edward Gendreau, of Derry, and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Zappala) Gendreau, in 2004; and by two brothers, Bill and Maurice Gendreau; and a sister, Rita Marchand.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew Parish, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH. Interment with military honors will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, 170 May St., Lawrence, MA.
