David Ignatius Brucato

May 22, 1932 - February 03, 2019

David Ignatius Brucato North Andover, MA - David Ignatius Brucato, 86, of North Andover, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on February 3, 2019, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. David was born in Lawrence, Mass., on May 22, 1932, one of seven sons of the late Thomas and Agnes (Robinson) Brucato. He was raised in Andover, Mass., and graduated from Punchard High School in 1951 where he played football, one of his many passions.

David, a Korean War veteran, served his country in the Navy from 1951 to 1955, being stationed for two years in the Far East on the heavy cruiser, the U.S.S. Quincy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, David fell in love and married Doris in 1958 and settled in North Andover where he raised his family and lived a vibrant life for the past 60 years. David went on to graduate from Merrimack College in 1964 and began his career in the defense and aerospace industry, working for AVCO Systems and Textron. His interesting career was filled with ever-changing matters and much of his work was classified, which included David serving as a special courier of classified and top secret documents in connection with missile development programs.

He and Doris enjoyed the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world. He was a die-hard New Englander, who embraced all four seasons, loved the outdoors and also spent much time exploring and enjoying the diversity of New England. He loved the sun and would spend summer hours with his family at the beach, swim club, sailing, boating, and fishing. Winter months were spent on the ski slopes and he made sure he had skiing companions in his daughters and taught them to ski by the time they were three years old.

An expert skier, David was a member of the Lawrencian Ski Club in Bartlett, N.H., where he competed in alpine racing for many years. He skied all over New England and Europe. Later in life he enjoyed volunteering as a member of the Bradford Hill Ski Patrol. Always looking for a challenge, David many times skied the legendary Tuckerman’s Ravine, before extreme skiing even became established.

A dedicated family man, David’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He loved being involved with his daughters’ activities when they were growing up and he continued to support their achievements throughout their lives. His grandchildren lit up his life and was very proud of all that they were doing.
A lifelong and avid Patriots and Red Sox fan, David enjoyed rooting for his two favorite teams and attending games, right up through the 2018 season.

He was a member of the North Andover VFW, where he enjoyed gathering with friends and meeting new people. David was a loyal friend who was very generous and kind, and always had a smile, a positive outlook and an open heart to those who came into his life.

David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Doris (Podufaly) Brucato of North Andover; and his two daughters Adrienne Tober and her husband John of Westport, Connecticut, and Deana Meinke and her husband John of Mentor, Ohio. He is loved and missed by his grandchildren, Jet Tober and Sean, Emma, Brooke and Ava Meinke. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, sister-in-law and friends. He was predeceased by all six of his brothers, John, Thomas, Peter, Edward, George, and Paul.
