Denis John's Story
Denis John Murphy, 73, of Haverhill, Mass., died September 1, 2017, at Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill after a long illness. A private funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Anthony's Church in Lawrence on September 6. Denis was born in Lawrence, Mass., and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence and Bentley University in Boston. He served six years in the Army Reserves. He was employed for 40 years by Capital Distributing Company of Andover and Dracut, Mass., and Horizon Beverage of Eastern MA. After his retirement in 2006, he worked part-time at Hickory Hill Golf Course, which became his "second home" and spent winters in Southwest Florida with his wife, Noreen. He loved golf, Boston sports teams (especially the Red Sox), playing 45s with family and friends, and the gatherings and cuisine of the large Lebanese family he married into. He is survived by his wife, Noreen Murphy; two sons, Daniel Murphy of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Timothy Murphy of New York City; and close family cousins, nieces, and nephews. "Murph" will be missed by friends and family alike who enjoyed his love of life, quick wit, and infectious Irish smile.
Donations may be made in his name to The Jimmy Fund or St. Anthony's Church in Lawrence, Mass.
