YORK BEACH, ME - Donald J. Smith, 91, of 38 Airport Dr., and formerly of Methuen and North Andover, Mass., passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017, at Durgin Pines surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 19, 1926, in Lawrence, Mass., a son of the late John C. and Mae G. (Parks) Smith. He graduated from Searles High School where he excelled in basketball, football and track, later being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Overton. He was co-owner of Smith Brothers Brown Derby and was a longtime manager at Stadium Lanes. He fell in love with York Beach while vacationing with his family and made it his permanent home 38 years ago. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Pauline A. (Quinlan) Smith of 63 years; son, Christopher J. Smith (Christine) of Gorham, Maine; daughters, Dawn M. Desmond (Daniel) of Atkinson, N.H., Laurie A. Marshall (Charles) of York, Maine, and Wendy J. Boehm (Michael) of Amherst, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, Kimberly, Amy, Karalyn, Daniel, Bethany, Lauren, Chad, Erin, Julia, Ryan, Caroline and Jeffrey; six great-grandchildren; and his beloved dogs, Barnaby and Quincy. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Robert, and brother, John.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec., 18, in St. Christopher's Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York, ME, with a period of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. for family and friends in the church.
