Text size

Helen Ann Hajj, a resident of Andover, beloved mother of Daniel De Santis, Carol Shea and Doreen De Santis, passed from this life on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Helen was born on January 13, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass., where she grew up and was one of 10 children in a strong and loving first generation American family. She graduated from Lawrence High School, became an excellent seamstress and during World War II, she was a “Rosie the Riveter." Later, as she continued to work-full time throughout her career until her retirement from her most recent position at Raytheon in 1989, she was a devoted mother to her three children. They always came first for the rest of her life. Blessed with natural beauty, she was always stylish. She loved to sew, cook, laugh, be with people and ball room dance. She was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Kanan) Hajj. She is survived by her loving children, Daniel M. De Santis of Pelham, N.H., Carol and her husband, Tom Shea of Kensington, N.H., and Doreen De Santis and her husband, Thomas Kinder of North Falmouth; siblings, Effie Saba, Emily Hajj, Thomas Hajj and James Hajj, all of the Merrimack Valley area; Jeanette Hajj, her very close friend and sister-in-law; Jane Tremblay, her “third daughter;” and Martire (Marty) Lucianno, her loving caregiver for many years and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends. She was also the sister of the late Adele Hatem, Genevieve Rahilly, Manny, Charles and George Hajj.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, on Friday, October 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours were held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, on Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
