Born in Boston on November 24, 1915, he was the son of William and Josephine (Zawalich) Tuminowski. Henry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was Methuen’s second volunteer under the Selective Service Act and was stationed in Hawaii with the Quartermaster Corps. He served as a firefighter with the Lawrence Fire Department from 1950 until 1976. He was a communicant for many years at Holy Trinity Church of Lawrence and later at St. Lucy’s Parish in Methuen. Henry was on the Board of Directors of the Julian Stopyra Polish American War Veterans Post and the Lawrence Firefighters Credit Union. He played baseball and football for the Fairview Club in Methuen. He also wrote poetry and was very proud of his vegetable and flower gardens. Henry was a huge Boston Red Sox fan. In his free time, he enjoyed taking day trips with his wife and family. He also traveled all over the country and to Poland.
Henry will be deeply missed by his 3 daughters, Carol A. Benjaminson and her husband, Paul of Tyrone, GA, Mary J. Dodson and her husband, Daniel of Newton, NH, and Jean J. D’Onofrio and her husband, Anthony of Salem, NH; his sister, Irene Stapinski of Haverhill; 3 grandchildren, Christopher Benjaminson, Anthony D’Onofrio, and Julia D’Onofrio; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his 4 brothers, Edward, Alfred, Leonard, and Walter.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Henry’s life by gathering for his calling hours on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 4:00- 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. His Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Burial will follow inside the mausoleum at St. Mary/Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
