Howard H. Bailey, 87, of Andover, MA and formerly of Bradford and Haverhill, died on January 9 at the Academy Manor in Andover.
Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, the son of the late Herbert and Elsie (Nolan) Bailey, he attended Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute. He served in the United States Air Force as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict and worked at Western Electric Company and AT&T Technologies in North Andover until his retirement.
A member of the New England Harness Racing Association, he owned and trained his own horses. His favorite and most successful horse was "Bill Bailey." Mr. Bailey enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes and taking Sunday drives with his wife Helen, often jumping into his green Dodge pickup with no particular place to go.
The husband of the late Helen (Leate) Bailey who died in 2017, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Howard W. Bailey of Kingston, NH and Joseph P. and Carla Bailey of Kingston, NH; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia A. Connors of W. Springfield, and Deborah J. and Daniel Forte of Haverhill; a sister, Pearl Bassie, formerly of Haverhill; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Robert Bailey.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, January 16, from 11 a.m. to noon at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial with U.S. Air Force honors will be held in the Spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Barrington, NH.
