James Jimmy Nassar
Jimmy was born on December 11, 1948, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of Samuel and Rosine (Kateb) Nassar.
Upon graduating from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Mass., class of 1966, he continued his education at Norwich University, Northfield, Vt., graduating in 1970. He continued working with his father at the family apple orchard, "Apple Acres," in Windham, N.H., where he remained until April of 1975. Jimmy then began his career with State Farm Insurance, which spanned 43 years, splitting his time between agency and management in N.H., N.Y. and Vt., with the last 22 years in Williston, Vt., at the Jim Nassar Insurance Agency Inc., representing State Farm Insurance as an agent.
Above all, Jimmy's love for his family was the bedrock of his life whether spending time at home, playing golf, skiing, or at the beaches of New Hampshire watching his granddaughters surf. He traveled with his family throughout the United States, Europe, Central America, Mexico and Bermuda. He loved his dogs, movies, reading, crossword puzzles, swimming and cribbage, staying a loyal fan to all the Boston teams, especially the Red Sox.
Jimmy was a member of the Burlington Country Club, Eagles, St. John's Club and Ethan Allen Club. He was a past President of the Rice High School Boosters Club and an officer of the Plaistow Lions Club in N.H. He was active as an instructor with adaptive skiing in N.Y. and Vt.
We would like to thank all of the medical staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass., Exeter Hospital, N.H., the Rockingham VNA & Hospice Exeter, N.H., and High Pointe House Haverhill, Mass., over the course of his unexpected journey. Also, to our many wonderful family and friends who have supported us through the past year, we are forever grateful to you all.
Staying true to the Norwich motto "I Will Try," Jimmy lived up to it through his valiant battle.
He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife, Mary Ellen (Harris); his children, Deanna and her husband John Paz of Ithaca, N.Y.; his son, James G (Jamie) and his wife, Kimberly Ryan Nassar of Shelburne, Vt; and his very precious granddaughters, Maria Elena Paz, Ryan Courtney and Jaime Elizabeth Nassar, who lovingly referred to him as "Jiddo."
He also leaves sisters, Diane Vevea of Tempe, Arizona, Sandra Samojeden of Lynnfield, Mass., Mary Jane (Paul) St. Amour of Bedford, Mass.; his brother Samuel (Jean) Nassar of Windham, N.H., and sister-in-law Nancy Harris of Hampton, N.H.; and brother-in-law William (Ceale) Harris of Winslow, Maine; his aunt Beverly Nassar of Haverhill, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Rosine Nassar and his sister Olga Clair Piantidosi of Pleasant Hill, Calif.
