METHUEN - James A. Pettine, 97, of Methuen, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Claire V. (Foucher) Pettine for 33 years.
James was born May 12, 1920, in Lawrence, son of the late Antonio and Amalia (Mazzocca) Pettine. After graduating from Lawrence High School and McIntosh Business School, James honorably served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was a turret gunner. He was employed as a welder with General Electric jet plane division in Everett and Lynn for 35 years before retiring in 1982.
James is survived by his adoring children, Elisa A. Jacobs and husband, John of Methuen and James A. Pettine and wife, Kiesha of Wimauma, Fla. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Brianna, and step-granddaughter, Aaliyah of Wimauma, Fla. James had three sisters, Carol Rivard of Salem, N.H., Oswalda DePetrillo (deceased), and Flora Tobacco (deceased). He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly by the countless lives he touched.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Monday, December 19, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 129 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Council (St. Theresa Church), 22 Plymouth St., Methuen.
