Janet M. (Donahue)'s Story
Janet Marie (Donahue) Salter, RN, 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, died peacefully at home in Haverhill on November 5, 2017, after a period of declining health.
A devout Catholic and daughter of Sacred Hearts Parish, Janet was for many years a daily communicant at St. James Parish, a member of St. James Sodality, and a weekly adorer of the Most Blessed Sacrament. She graduated from Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, beginning her nursing career at Hale Hospital, Haverhill, and retiring from Lucent Technologies, North Andover, in 1989. Janet’s deep faith, kindness, gentle, loving ways, and beautiful smile were gifts she shared with all. She will remain forever in our hearts.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Francis X. Salter; children, Gerard F. Salter and wife, Requi M., of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Marie A. Salter of Haverhill; grandchildren, Edie, Matthew, Emily, Audrey, Michael, and Regan; sister, Elizabeth A. Ouellette; sisters-in-law, Sr. M. Joseph Francis, CSJ, and Mary M. Filipowicz; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter J. and Catherine E. Donahue; brothers, J. Robert, Francis X., and W. Richard Donahue; and sister, Barbara J. Evans.
The family wishes to thank all who have cared for Janet the past few years, especially Rev. Timothy Kearney; Rev. Andreas Davison; the nurses of Home Health VNA; Dexter, Diane, Sheryl, Yarlin, Colleen, and Rachel; Dr. Lydia Zuser and staff; the Haverhill Fire Department and Trinity EMS; and all who have so generously prayed for her.
