Jasper "Jay" Cammarata

October 24, 1924 - January 26, 2019

Jasper Jay Cammarata North Andover - Our dearly beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jasper (Jay) Cammarata of North Andover (formerly of Winchester), passed away peacefully at High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill on January 26. A very decent man, with a heart of gold, was born on October 24, 1924, raised in East Boston, then Brighton, by his parents Frank and Angelina. He enlisted in the army in 1943, served in the US Army 229 AAA unit with the 13th Air Force in the Pacific Campaign. Returning after the war, he met his sweetheart, Rita Pellegrini of Brighton, married in 1951 and had three children. For the next 43 years, he was employed at Raytheon in the research and development program in Waltham. While still working and after retirement, he organized many successful travel trips, both local and overseas. Over the years, he joined and participated in many clubs and organizations including the United Way (toy drive), the VFW, the Elks, the Raytheon Bowling League and the 1505 retirees club, the Sons of Italy softball league and countless others. To the end, always a people person who believed that being true to oneself and always giving 110% was most important.
Sadly, he leaves behind his wife, Rita, of 67 years, his son Edward and wife Carole and family of Westford, Daughter Jeanne of Manchester-by-the-sea and daughter Deborah Straker and husband Elon and family of Lawrence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or any charitable or environmental organization of your choice.

To the Camerrata family,

I’m so sorry for your loss of such a dear husband and father. I’ve been a friend of Jeanne’s “Gina” for a long time we met on Plum Island. She often talked about her Mom and Dad and the family dog “Chip” because we had a dog. When we bought a new house Gina said we should plant fruit trees which her parents had when she was growing up. I only met Jasper once but he was a warm and friendly man. I remember how welcome I felt in their home. I can’t imagine how hard it is to lose your Dad who has been with you all your life or your supportive husband who consistently made things happen for a life well lived. Again my deepest sympathies and know that
