Jeno Martin, 81, husband of Arline S. (Rogers) Martin, passed away October 29, 2017, at Hannah Duston Healthcare in Haverhill with his loving family by his side. He was born September 20, 1936, in Budapest, Hungary.
Jeno had many passions in life. He loved nature and camping and looked forward to his weekends to head to his camp to enjoy the serenity of nature to read, climb mountains and hike the trails. He was an amazing chef and would create unbelievable Austrian meals for the family. Like any good chef, he would always wait to eat until the family took their first bite and gave him a nod of approval.
Jeno was an avid reader and loved books of all kinds. He worked as a manager for 15 years for Lauriat’s book store. He traveled across New England setting up and opening new stores for the company. When Lauriat’s closed, Jeno worked for Hewlett Packard as a logistics manager for 20 years until he retired.
He loved classical music and could “name that tune” in one note. He could give you the history of the composer and song at any given time. Every Wednesday for years he went to the Methuen Music Hall to hear the composers on the beautiful pipe organ.
He had many great stories about growing up in Austria and Hungary. He was a member of the men’s soccer (football) team for the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and won a silver medal.
He loved to be with his family, especially his grandchildren who were the apple of his eye. He was one proud Papa and taught them so much.
He leaves his beloved wife, Arline, of 35 years; his children, Kimberly Hosford and John Tyler of Haverhill and Stephen LaMarca and Drina Ramsdell of Haverhill; his grandchildren, Michael Russell Jr. and his wife, Christine, Jennifer Roy and her husband, Justin, Stephen LaMarca Jr., and Stephanie LaMarca; four great-grandchildren, Hazel, Livia, Chase and Ella; brother-in-law, Ronald Rogers and his wife, Sharon. Jeno was predeceased by his son-in-law, Richard Hosford III.
