HAVERHILL,- Joan E. (Vaitiskis) Russo (a.k.a Sr. Mary Charles Vaitiskis), 72, a resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Hannah Duston Nursing Home in Haverhill, MA.
She was born in Lawrence on September 14th, 1945 to the late Charles A. and Frances E. (Kudsonway) Vaitiskis. Joan was educated in the local elementary schools, was a 1963 graduate of Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen. and in 1969 she received her LPN at the Merredian School of Practical Nursing in Scranton, Pa.
Joan worked as an LPN for many years at the Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen, Mass. and was an Ordained Nun at the Poor Sisters of Jesus Crucified and the Sorrowful Mother for seven years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Methuen, MA.
Wife of the late Mr. Michael C. Russo, Jr. and survived by her children: Tara M. and her husband, Everett Brown of Epping, N.H.; their children, Everett Scott and Avalon Raine. Michael A. Russo, III and Rebecca Bakanosky of Haverhill, and their children, Hannah and Lilly Rose; sister-in-law, Claire M. and her late husband Ronald J. Eyssi, Sr.; her sister, Karen Vaitiskis. Predeceased by her brother, Charles Vaitiskis; niece, Donna M. Eyssi-Dow; nephew, Ronald J. Eyssi Jr. and his wife, Heather; niece, Renee Eyssi, and Anthony Bernabeo; nephew, Matthew Vaitiskis; niece, Karyn Vaitiskis Patel. She is also survived by many great grand nieces and nephews.
Special appreciation to her niece, Donna for two decades of support and advocacy. Special thanks also to all who supported Joan and her family during her chronic illness.
Friends and family are invited to arrive directly to Saint Joseph Church, 40 Main St. Salem, NH, to celebrate her funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. The rite of committal will follow at St. Mary & Immaculate Conception Chapel-Mausoleum in Lawrence.
Friends and family are invited to pray the Rosary, prior to her wake, from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
