John Austin, 88, formerly of Magna Road, died November 29, 2017, at Royal Wood Center in Lawrence, Mass.
Born November 5, 1929, in Newfields, N.H., he was the son of Albert and Florence (Turner) Austin. He was raised in Newfields and lived in Lowell for many years and has resided in Methuen since 1985.
He was a Private in the Army from 1948 to 1953, and then served in the National Guard of New Hampshire and the Army Reserve. From 1955 to 1956 he served in the Air Force as an Airman Third Class.
For many years he worked in the Mills in Lowell, and most recently was employed as a Shanker for Helen Shoe Shop in Haverhill. Mr. Austin was a member of the Newfields Community Church.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Road, Newmarket, NH. A Funeral Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Holly Tomilson, officiating, Pastor of the Newfields Community Church.
Burial will follow in the Newfields Cemetery with full Military Honors.
