HAVERHILL - Joseph Ferrero of Haverhill, MA passed away suddenly on Jan 16, 2018, at his home. Joe was born Nov 19, 1926 in Hartford, Conn., the son of Manuel Ferrero and Nellie (Cassara) Ferrero. He graduated from Weaver High School in 1944, after which he served his country in the Army Air Force. Joe was also a graduate of the University of Hartford. He enjoyed a long career in banking in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Joe was well-known for his personable nature and keen intellect. As a licensed ham radio operator (call sign WA1JF), he made friends all over the world. This included especially his best friend Jim McCobb, who introduced him to the hobby almost 40 years ago. Joe was a voracious reader, an audiophile with a particular love of classical music, and an avid user of technology. He loved participating in family events and spending time with his close friends.
Joe is survived by his four children Joan Ferrero, Bruce Ferrero and his wife Rosemarie, Leslie Larson, and Mark Ferrero and his wife, Elisabeth, by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and by his brother, Richard Ferrero and his wife Eleanor. He is also survived by his beloved friend, Betsey Ansin.
A private burial service and celebration of his life will be held. Donations may be made in Joe's name to WGBH for their support of classical music, or to a charity of your choice.
