Amesbury - Joseph M. "Mike" Greaney, age 93, passed peacefully Monday, May 13, 2019, at Penacook Place in Haverhill.
Born in Newburyport, on December 13, 1925, to Joseph and Lena (Castonguay) Greaney, he was a member of the Amesbury High School class of 1944. He received his honorary degree in Operation Recognition in 2000.
Mr. Greaney was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the 97th Infantry Division in the United States Army receiving the Bronze Star while serving in both the European and Japanese Theatres from April 25, 1944, until he was honorably discharge on May 2, 1946, with the rank of Corporal.
Known by most everyone as "Mike." He was a lifelong, active member of St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, and he enjoyed performing in all of the Holy Family shows and musicals with his wife Dorothy. Mike was honored to be a member of the Veterans group of Amesbury. He enjoyed serving on civic committees including the committee for rebuilding the Amesbury Middle School. He enjoyed playing golf at the Amesbury Country Club.
In addition to his devoted wife of 68 years, Dorothy V. (Kealey) Greaney of Haverhill, he leaves his sons, Kevin J. Greaney of Newton, N.H. and James M. Greaney and wife Pamela, of Amesbury; his daughter, Geralyn Willett and husband Terrence of Amesbury; his eleven grandchildren, Kayleigh Greaney, Corey and wife Amanda Greaney, Kerin Willett, Patrick
Willett and his significant other, Kristen, Ryan Willett and his wife Christine, Matthew Greaney, Matt Mott, Erica Mott, James M. Greaney and wife Erin, Michele Greaney-Stasiak and husband Daniel, and Joshua Greaney; along with fourteen great-grandchildren, several cousins, extended family, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Jason Greaney and his brother, William F. Greaney.
Visiting hours will be Friday, May 17, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury, followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amesbury. Donations in his memory may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, Attention: Community Engagement, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843 or Penacook Employee Fund, Penacook Place, 150 Water St., Haverhill, MA 01830.

Geralyn, so sorry to hear about your dad. He was quite a guy. I enjoyed chatting with him about town issues on occasion and just seeing him in the neighborhood.
