HAVERHILL - Leo DeSando, 84, of Haverhill passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 surrounded by his family. The son of, James and Rose (Pepe) DeSando, he was born and resided in the same home his entire life. He was the beloved husband of Grace (Belfiore) DeSando for sixty years.
Educated in Haverhill, Leo graduated from the trade school and went on to become a successful plumber for 30 years. He retired from Western Electric/ATT in 1992, which afforded him more time to spend with his family. He placed them above all else, and spent all of his time enjoying their company, whether it be Sunday dinners or backyard barbeques in the summer. He was most happy when family and his many friends filled his yard with laughter, country music, and long conversations about his favorite Boston sports teams, the Red Sox and Patriots.
The love of Leo's life was his wife, Grace. He felt he was a blessed man to have her as his wife. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Aruba, and bowling together over the years. He also loved playing cards, reading, and as a young man, he showed a talent for drawing. Going out to eat was also on the short list of his favorite activities, and he was sure to have breakfast with his friends from work once a month. Leo was very generous with his time, as he volunteered on the Haverhill Auxiliary Police Force for his community. He will certainly be missed by his family and friends, whom he loved and cherished.
Leo is survived by his wife, Grace (Belfiore) DeSando; daughters, Donna Scafidi and her husband, John and Christine Faulkner and her husband Ted; grandchildren, William and Justin Rivera, Amy Bourdon, Rebecca Scafidi; great-granddaughter, Zoey Rivera; granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Rivera; sister, Susie Fazzio and Angelina LaSorsa; brothers, John, Richard, Dominick, Vito, Ralph, Anthony DeSando; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. His funeral service will take place at the conclusion of visitation at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the MSPCA at mspca.org or St. Jude Children's Hospital at stjude.org. For directions or on-line condolences, please visit www.cataudellafh.com..
