Peabody, MA - Lillian C. (Rage) Sturgis, 103 years young, of Peabody and formerly of Haverhill, died peacefully Sunday morning, July 7, at Kaplan Family Hospice, Danvers.
She was born in Somerville, June 16, 1916, daughter of the late Costas and Maria (Liapis) Rage.
Educated in the Haverhill school system, Mrs. Sturgis graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1945, and earned her Business Degree from the former McIntosh Business School in 1946.
She was employed for several years as a manager at the former Clearweave Clothing Store, Haverhill. She was also employed as a purchaser at various local shoe stores. She moved to Tarpon Springs, FL and retired in 1978. In 1986 she moved to Peabody where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Lillian loved her Greek heritage and enjoyed nightclubbing and Greek dancing. She was a fabulous cook and known for her tzatziki and many specialty Greek dishes. Always the life of the party, Lillian would make friends with anyone that she met. She was fun, energetic, current with social media and fiercely independent until the end.
Her survivors include a daughter, Georgiann Jacobson of Peabody, a son-in-law, Robert Gulezian of Atkinson, NH, a sister-in-law, Helen Rage of Salem, NH, two grandsons, Peter Gulezian and his wife Kerry of Atkinson, NH, Marc Gulezian and his wife Sandra of Tyngsborough, five great grandchildren, Stephanie, Olivia, Zachary, Alex and Andy, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Charles Alvanos and Michael Sturgis, her daughter, Stephanie Gulezian, son-in-law, Leroy Jacobson, siblings, Ethel Gounaris, Alikie Borowski, Nikki Schena and Anthony Rage as well as her longtime companion James Ellias.
The family would like to thank and recognize all of her close friends and neighbors who helped care for her when she needed it most, especially Cheryl Doolan, her dear friend of over 30 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Friday morning, July 12, from 10:00 to 11:00, at Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101 First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451, or Holy Apostles Sts.
