Lucille (Scalora)'s Story

Text size

Lucille Pappalardo outlived her prognosis in triumphant fashion. Between cancer treatments, she started playing harp. She made craft after craft for loved ones, and she enjoyed "gatherings" like afternoon tea, Christmas in July, and an eclipse viewing party. On her way home from the hospital, she even voted in last week's election a testament to her life as a proud Lawrence native.
Lucille worked as a seamstress for 37 years before retiring from Southwick, where she sewed suits for her favorite stars like Frank Sinatra and Mickey Rooney. In her downtime, Lucille used her green thumb. She was also involved with Saint Rita's Sodality and Corpus Christi Parish. This woman of faith showed compassion to everyone from cashiers to dear cousins. Many knew Lucille as a confidante, storyteller, and a top-notch Italian cook -- one winning combination!
Lucille's story began in 1939 when she was born to Lucy Trigilio and Salvatore Scalora. She grew up with Antoinette Knapp and Paul Scalora, her siblings and best friends. Then she raised a family of her own with her other half, Giuseppe Pappalardo (deceased). Lucille became the well-loved sister-in-law of Douglas Knapp (deceased), Diane Scalora, Maria Giuffrida, John Giuffrida, Alfred Pappalardo, Rosemary Pappalardo, Orazio Pappalardo, and Rosetta Pappalardo.
Lucille is survived by daughters, Grace Caires and Lucille Gendron; son-in-law, Derek Gendron; and granddaughters, Breanna Caires, Alicia Gendron, Kara Gendron, and Meagan Sarkis.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the light Lucille shined on their lives. They can attend visiting hours on Friday, October 6, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
