Marian Stewart's Story

Text size

Marian Stewart Gaffny, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her, died peacefully November 11. Born on September 8, 1926, in North Andover to Frank Punky Stewart and Hannah Bamford Stewart, Marian was educated in the North Andover school system and graduated from Johnson High in 1944.
She was a talented artist, avid bridge player, accomplished gardener, and a loving compassionate friend to many. But if you were to ask Marian Gaffny to name her greatest joy and accomplishment in life, she would tell you about her 68-year marriage to her beloved husband, John, who passed away two years ago this month. Everyone who ever met them marveled at the depth of their love, and their devotion to each other. Today we all take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband, and exactly where she would want to be.
A devoted mother, Marian was always proud to tell you about her seven children: Susan Wilkerson, and husband, Lance, of Seabrook, N.H.; John and his wife, Janet, of North Andover; Michael, formerly of Amesbury; Tim and wife, Nina, of North Andover; Tom and wife, Candace, of Wellesley; Nancy Rullo, formerly of North Andover; and Marian Terranova and husband, Joe, of North Andover.
In addition, she leaves 26 grandchildren: William, Katherine and Michael Soule; John, Kristen, Matthew, Mark and Meghan Gaffny; Tristan, Jocelyn, Alanna, and Shauna Gaffny; Timothy, Jeffrey, Patrick, Evan, and Max Gaffny; Thomas, David, and Lauren Gaffny; Martha, Ellen, and Michael Rullo; and Michael, Luke, and Mary Terranova; and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Grace Farrow and her husband, Don; brother, Gerald Stewart and wife, Glenda; two sister-in-laws, Harriet Gaffny Palmieri and Margaret Gaffny O’Connell.
