Marilda "Marie"'s Story

Marilda "Marie" G. (Gagnon) Gosselin, 77, of Lawrence, Mass., a former Lawrence City Councilor and St. Patrick's Parade Coordinator, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017, at the Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born in Lawrence, Marie was a graduate of St. Mary's Grammar School and a 1957 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Marie had worked as the first ladies sales representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where she worked for 40 years. She was the first woman to play in the Rogers Golf Tournament before the Women's Division was formed. Marie was also a pro bowler at the former Stadium Lanes. She was a Lady Elk as well as a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Marie had sat on the Lawrence City Council from 1996 to 2007. She was also a planning board member for six years. She also served as parade coordinator for the Lawrence St. Patrick's Day Parade and Santa Claus Parade for some 20 years. A former member of Andover Country Club, Marie was most recently a member of Campbell's Scottish Highlands in Salem, N.H.
Marie was daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Rallo) Gagnon and the widow of Gilles Henry Gosselin.
Family members include her son, Matthew G. Gosselin and former spouse, Joy Moriarty of North Andover; two granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Gosselin and Mia Rose Gosselin; three brothers, Joseph W. Gagnon of Windham, N.H., John F. Gagnon of Salem, N.H., and Michael J. Gagnon of Methuen. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Kathy Michaud of Windham, N.H., as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 11 a.m., in St. Patrick's Church, 118 So. Broadway, Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Andover, Mass. Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc.., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA.
