Marilyn A. (Burby) Harty

March 11, 1940 - April 07, 2018

Methuen - Marilyn "Mal" A. (Burby) Harty, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Mal was born, grew up, and lived her entire life in the Five Corners area of Methuen. It was there that she raised her family with her husband, Dick.
She may have lived in Methuen, but she was known by many as a great cook in two well-known establishments in Lawrence. In her early years, she was at Eddie Mann's, where she met and formed a lifetime friendship with Gail Lambert. Those two were together as best buds right up to the end. When Mann's closed, Mal went to Sam's Steakout, where she became known for her famous meatloaf dinner, and the famous fish and chips she served on Friday nights. Those meals brought in so many guests, and it was through her cooking and sitting in those booths that countless friendships and memories were formed. Her sense of humor and loyalty to family and friends will be remembered and missed by all who are fortunate enough to have met her.
Mal was predeceased by her father and mother, William and Anna (Beaulieu) Burby; brother William Burby of Arizona; husband Richard J. Harty; and daughter Debra A. Harty.
Mal is survived by her sister, Kathy Mabee and spouse Stan; daughters, Donna Deschamp and partner Ralph (Butch) Richards, Dianne Houde and spouse David; and son David Harty; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nephew Stephen; niece Karen; and three great-nephews. She also leaves behind special friends who were always there for her, Sue Ellen and Richard Holmes.
Whether you called her, Sis, Mom, Auntie, Memere or friend, she would always answer, and we all know she will always be watching over us. In case you doubt this, just lookup and you will see her. She is that Shining Star!
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service to be held at the family lot in Elmwood Cemetery, North Lowell Street, Methuen on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. At the request of the family, there are no calling hours.
