Mekdes A.'s Story
Mekdes A. Abebe, age 69, of Windham, N.H., died Thursday at Mass General Hospital, Boston, MA.
Mekdes was born in Addis, Ababa, Ethiopia, where she grew up and attended schools. She came to the United states for her undergraduate college education, graduating from State University of NY at Buffalo, and received her MBA from Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I. She was a resident of Windham for the past 33 years.
Mekdes was a financial professional for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as working in the Governor’s office. She loved the culinary arts and was an amazing chef. She mostly enjoyed spending her time with family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons, Habte Selassie Abiye A. Yacob of Windham, N.H., and Brook E. Yacob of Somerville, Mass.; brothers, Yacob Abebe of Heightsville, Va., Yohannes Abebe of Washington, D.C., Yoseph Abebe of Arlington, Va., Eskinder Abebe of Ethiopia, and Abeye Abebe of Woodbridge, Va.; two grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relative are invited to calling hours on Sunday, September 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Carrier family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd., Windham, NH. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cemetery on the Plains, Windham, NH.
