Melvin Berger, 78, of Methuen, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill with his family by his side.
He was born in Danville, Va. and was raised and educated in Reidsville, N.C. He attended Bay State Community College and graduated from Newbury Junior College, Boston with a degree in management.
Melvin retired from Malden Mills where he worked as a colorist. He was a member of the Concord Baptist Church in Boston where he served as a deacon and a trustee, and volunteered his time with the food bank. He also enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
He was predeceased by his son, David Bradner and his brother, Herman Coleman.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Willie “Marie” (Calhoun) Berger; sons, Kanoba Bradner of Georgia and Melvin Berger, Jr. of Lowell; daughters, Sherry Chuks of Methuen and Robin Whitson and her husband, Louis of Haverhill; grandchildren, Kanoba, David, Jennifer, Rodney, Shelby, Jordan, Michael, Janelle, Courtney, and Kaylah. He also leaves 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 13 Ashland St. in Haverhill.
