Windham, NH - Meredith Ann Hanson, sister, aunt and friend, recently passed away unexpectedly at her home in Windham, N.H., on May 30. Born May 11,1951, Meri was the daughter of Priscilla (Garland) Hanson and Robert Winters Hanson. A 1969 graduate of Andover High School in Andover, Mass., Meri is a member of the school's sports Hall of Fame for athletic achievements in field hockey, basketball, and softball. In 1973 she received her bachelor's degree from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
After college, Meri began her career at the Andover/North Andover YMCA and then taught elementary physical education at the Tarbox, Bruce, and Robert Frost Elementary School. She was also a field hockey and basketball coach at Lawrence High School. Through her devotion to children and commitment to her work as an educator and coach, Meri's positive influence touched countless children and athletes over the course of her 40 year career. She was an outstanding, dedicated teacher with a big heart for both her students and colleagues.
An extraordinary aunt and caring friend, Meri was known for her kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness. She could often be found on trails and dog parks with her canine companion. She loved her Golden Retrievers! Meri gave generously to many charities that support animal and social issues. As a sports fan with a passion for Boston teams, she was ecstatic with all of the recent championships. She also loved music, especially the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Meri attended Camp Nokomis on Lake Winnipesaukee during her childhood and continued as a counselor and remained connected to camp for the rest of her life.
Meri will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brothers Rob Hanson and Randy Hanson and their families, including a niece, nephew, a great-niece and great-nephew, and her faithful, enthusiastic Golden Retriever Keelie.

Services will be held at a later date. To honor Meri's love of animals, and in lieu of flowers, please send donations to MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Metheun, Mass., (www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/nevins-farm-adoption-center/).

I am so sad to hear about Meri. I was at Nokomis with her for many years! She was first my counselor and then my friend. Meri was a wonderful person and she touched the lives of many people. My prayers are with all the friends and family who loved her.

I had the priveledge of having Ms. Hanson as a gym teacher at the Frost. She shared her love for her dog Shadow ( if memory serves) with us. She was always encouraging and warm. Peace be with those who loved her.
