SAN DIEGO, CA - Nellie McPherson, 86, of Amesbury, Mass., passed away on December 13, 2017 in San Diego, Calif. There will be no funeral services. Rather, a celebration of her life will be announced for the San Diego area after the New Year. A later (and warmer) date will be announced for those wishing to celebrate her in the New England area.
Nellie was born in East Boxford, Mass. to Clifton and Jesse Bartlett on March 15, 1931. She grew up in Amesbury, and graduated Amesbury HS in 1949. She lived and worked in the surrounding area, mainly as an administrative assistant at Wang Labs and a traveling certified nursing assistant. She retired at the age of 70 and relocated to San Diego. She enjoyed gardening, reading, walking excursions, and exploring the beaches, parks, zoos, and museums of sunny San Diego (becoming, as she would like to say, "A California City Girl"). Nellie had an incredibly generous spirit that she enjoyed sharing with her family, friends, and others in need.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Jesse; her brother, George Bartlett; and her son, Michael (Tricia) McPherson. Nellie is survived by her sister, Shirley O'Connell of Newburyport; son, James McPherson of Sebastian, Fla.; daughter, Susan Cassidy of Meredith, N.H.; son, Douglas (Ron Comparato) McPherson of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Adam McPherson, Ross McPherson, Jason Sullivan, Tyler Sullivan and Dakota Cassidy; and numerous friends.
It was a gift to know Nellie McPherson. We are sad to see her go. Though we find solace that the good she has given this world will resonate.
