Nikomahi M.'s Story
Nikomahi M. “Niki” (Carelis) Costas, 84, of Haverhill, died Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston.
She was born in Haverhill, September 12, 1932, daughter of the late Kleovolos and Irene (Tickelis) Carelis.
Educated in the Haverhill school system, Mrs. Costas graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1950, and attended the former MacIntosh Business School.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed as an office worker and, after her marriage, was employed at the former Peter’s Sweet Shop as well as for area bakeries.
A longtime member of Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Mrs. Costas was a humble and kind caregiver to those she loved, always putting others ahead of herself.
She was the wife of the late Michael Costas, Sr. who died in 1999, and her survivors include two sons, Michael Costas, Jr. of Haverhill, Steven Costas and his wife, Susan of Lawrence; two brothers, Charles Carelis and his wife, June of Billerica, Nicholas Carelis of Haverhill; three step-grandchildren, Kelly McNamara and her husband, Scott, Michael McLaughlin, Kerrie LaBroad and her husband, Chris; four great-grandchildren, Delaney and Dorie McNamara, Jack and Reid LaBroad; a niece, Michelle Carelis; two nephews, Paul Carelis who was also her Godson, and Peter Carelis.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Friday morning, Sept. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Holy Apostles Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.
