Norman Milhendler

January 10, 1938 - April 30, 2018

Haverhill - Norman Milhendler, 80, of Haverhill passed away Monday April 30 at Penacook Place.
He was born on January 10, 1938, to Phillip and Ruth (Maizel) Milhendler. He lived in Haverhill all his life, attended Tilton Grammar School and Haverhill High School. He left school in his junior year to help his parents.
Norman worked in shoe shops both in Haverhill and Lawrence. He also worked at the Hale Hospital for 14 years, from where he retired. He sat on the board of Community Action for 18 years, the last 3 of which he was vice president. He spent 4 years on Downtown Events Commission, enjoyed politics and ran for City Council two times.
He was a member of Congregation Anshe Shalom in Haverhill for many years. Norman was also a member of the Comedy Masque Review for many years and enjoyed singing and playing bingo.
Norman lived at Penacook Place for over 10 years where he had been President of the Resident Council.
He was predeceased by his wife Carol Parshley. She had 4 sons, David Parshley and his girlfriend Crystall, Larry Parshley and his wife Linda, Ron Smith and his wife Katrina and Richard Smith.
Norman met Beatrice Spera with whom he had a special relationship for many years. Bea has three children, Jennifer Howe, Gino Spera and his wife Kim and the late Tony Spera. He is also survived by Adele Milhendler Bourkoff and family of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, David Hoffman and family, Drew Hoffman and family and Jane Hoffman and her fiancé Dennis, and a very dear friend Patricia Gosselin.
Bea wanted to thank all the staff at Penacook Place for their wonderful care and respect shown to him while he was there.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral on Friday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill. Interment will follow in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions may be made to Penacook Place Activities Fund, 150 Water. St. Haverhill, MA 01830.
