Paul Ulric's Story
North Andover, MA - Paul Ulric Lafond, 94, passed away Monday evening at Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover, where he had been a resident for the past year. Paul was born and raised in North Andover and attended North Andover schools. He was the son of the late Albert and Corrine Lafond. For many years he spent summers at Salisbury Beach where he owned a summer home.
Born on July 2, 1923, he was a longtime North Andover police officer and served with the United States Army during World War II in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon following his service in the war. He also served later with the United States Naval Reserve.
Paul was a lifelong member of St. Michael Church in North Andover. He had a radiant and fun-loving personality and enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and avidly following the Red Sox and Patriots. He also had great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul was also a member of the 1939 undefeated Johnson High football team, along with his brothers Leo and Bill. He also enjoyed spending time during summers in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, with his son Paul who he lived with in North Andover for 12 years.
He is predeceased by his late wife of 56 years, Rita; brothers, William, Leo, Laurence and Albert; and sisters Irene, Alice, Rita, Louise, Mary and Cecile. He also leaves many nieces and nephews; and was the father of the late Suzanne and Mary Lafond. Paul was also predeceased by his grandson Joseph Patrick Lafond who passed away on May 16, 2011. Paul was the grandfather of Daniel Lafond and his wife Daniele of Dallas, Texas, and Michelle Lafond Doucette of North Andover, as well as great-grandchildren Bridget, James and Marie Doucette, and Ella Rose Lafond.
Family and friends may call on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover, MA 01845. A funeral Mass will be also on Friday, 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church, North Andover. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
