Rachel L.'s Story
MERRIMAC - Rachel Louise (Poore) Adams, age 97, died peacefully Saturday morning, March 3, 2018, at her home in Merrimac, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of 61 years to the late Robert H. Adams, who preceded her in death on April 22, 2009.
Born in West Newbury, on October 19, 1920, she was one of two daughters of the late Charles A. and Idella (Rowell) Poore and was a graduate of the former West Newbury Central High School.
Rachel held several jobs throughout her life, but for many years she was a Police Matron and school crossing guard with the Merrimac Police Department. She had been actively involved and was a Past Officer of the Laurel Grange of West Newbury, the Stanley F. Wood Post No. 134 of Merrimac, Lorraine Post No. 129 VFW of Haverhill and the West Newbury Garden Club. Additionally, Rachel was the organist at All Saints Episcopal Church of West Newbury many years ago, and in more recent years was the organist at the Baptist Church in Newton, N.H. She thoroughly enjoyed arts and crafts, but was especially talented in doing her own oil paintings and drawings. She was also quite adept at knitting and crocheting. She always loved sharing her handicrafts with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Adams and wife, Diane of Tilton, NH; a daughter, Beverly Terrazzano and husband Joseph of Merrimac, with whom she made her home for the last six years; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a nephew, Charles Holmes of Raymond, N.H.; a niece, Arlene Bassett of Sandown, NH, along with extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her only sister, Ruth Holmes.
The family wishes to extend a most special "Thanks" to her friend and caregiver, Linda Richards of Merrimac.
Springtime burial will be held at Union Cemetery in Newton, N.H. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O.
