Rita T.'s Story
Rita T. (Lambert) Simard, 91, a longtime resident of Bigelow Street in Lowell, passed away on July 7, 2017, at Salemhaven Nursing and Rehab Center in Salem, N.H. She was the wife of the late Omer E. Simard who died in 2007.
Rita was born in Lowell on January 24, 1926, a daughter of the late Thomas and Georgiana (Goudreault) Lambert.
Rita was raised in Chelmsford and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School.
Rita married Omer E. Simard in 1948 and together they raised two loving children. Over the years, Rita held several positions as a bookkeeper and secretary. Later, Mrs. Simard remained at home to raise her children and take care of her home.
She and her husband were longtime parishioners of the Sacred Heart Church in Lowell. She loved attending the Sacred Heart bingo. She later lived in Salem, N.H. for several years and was a resident of The Meetinghouse in Manchester, N.H.
Mrs. Simard was a dedicated mother who took great care of her family. Rita was a bit of a prankster, an avid reader, enjoyed going to the casino to play the slot machines, and take trips to the beach. She loved to go out to eat, and had quite the sweet tooth. Rita was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. Most of all, she enjoyed being in the company of her children and grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her son, Donald F. Simard and his wife, Sandra of Naples, Fla.; her daughter, Patricia A. Kasila and her husband, Paul of Windham, N.H.; her grandchildren, Joseph and Andrea Simard of Naples, Fla., Suzanne and Brian DeLadurantey of Naples, Fla., Kelley Kasila of Hampstead, N.H., Deborah and Mike Heffernan of Windham, N.H.; and her great-grandchildren, Cameron Heffernan, Henri Simard, Calvin DeLadurantey, and Marissa Simard; her sister, Doris Hayes of North Carolina; her brother, Robert Lambert of Pepperell; and many nieces and nephews. Rita was also dear friends with Leo Sheridan and the late Rita Sheridan of Lowell. Mrs. Simard was the sister of the late Wilfred Lambert and Arthur Lambert and sister-in-law of the late Evelyn Lambert, Barbara Lambert, Armand Simard, and Norma Simard.
Family and friends may call at the Fay McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore St., Lowell on Monday from 3 until 7 p.m. Mrs. Simard’s funeral will begin on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish – St. Marie's Church, corner of Chamberlain and Grafton Streets, Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
