Robert E. Lovely, 88, of Salisbury, died on Monday, August 7, 2017, in Princess Anne, Md.
Born in South Groveland, Mass., and raised in Bradford, Mass., he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Edith (Hefferan) Lovely. He attended St. James High School, Boston College, and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Tampa.
One of his life’s passions was football. He played in the NFL for the Chicago Cardinals. In 1964, he was inducted into the University of Tampa’s Hall of Fame.
He served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Bob was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. He also volunteered with the Joseph House Ministries.
He enjoyed tennis and crossword puzzles and was a devout New England Patriots fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean F. (Donahue) Lovely; sons, Robert E. Lovely, Jr. and Daniel J. Lovely; his brothers, Raymond F. Lovely, Donald J. Lovely and Louis J. Lovely; and sister-in-law, Sheila M. Vaughn.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan (Lovely) Holloway and Marion S. Holloway of West Palm Beach, Fla., Kathleen (Lovely) Crossan and Howard H. Crossan of Princess Anne, Md.; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine (Lovely) Hogan and Wayne Hogan of Bradford, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Mary Lovely of Atkinson, N.H., Maureen Lovely and Stephanie Lovely, both of Haverhill, Mass.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob who was generous in life was also generous in death and donated his body to science.
A memorial Mass and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury, Md.
