Rosaria Sara Iacobello Medfield, MA - Rosaria 'Sara' Iacobello, 83, Medfield., formerly of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on March 7 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Scordia, Sicily, she came to the United States exactly 61 years ago on March 7, 1958, at the age of 22. After a brief time working at Jo-Gal Shoe, she was hired by Western Electric in North Andover. She remained there throughout the change from Western Electric to AT&T and later to Lucent Technologies rising to the level of instructor in the circuit board repair division. She was sought out by the engineers for the more complex work assignments due to her attention to detail and strong work ethic. She was a devoted wife and mother who provided a secure, loving, and meticulously kept home for her family. She was an outstanding cook specializing in authentic, traditional, Sicilian recipes. She retired from Lucent Technologies in 1998 and moved to Medfield, to be closer to her daughter. She donated many hours volunteering at the Medfield Senior Center, and local nursing homes where she was known for her chicken and meatball soup, sharp wit, bright outlook, biting sense of humor, and selfless generosity. She also enjoyed traveling and going to Foxwoods. Sara was the wife of the late Mario Iacobello of Lawrence. and mother of the late Marco Iacobello of Atkinson, NH. Sara is survived by a daughter, Francesca (Iacobello) Devlin and her husband and beloved son-in law Christopher Devlin of Medfield; son Anthony Iacobello of Dracut, MA., beloved brother Vito D'Anna and wife Pat of Londonderry, NH., grandchildren, Samantha Iacobello of California, Sgt. Ian Iacobello and his wife, Wendi of North Carolina, Elyssa F. Iacobello of Dracut; Sofia Maria Devlin and Anthony Rocco Devlin of Medfield; nephew and godchild Anthony D'Anna and Diane of Methuen; nephews, Vito D'Anna and wife, Janet of Methuen, Mark D'Anna and wife, Ressa of Andover, and Jonathon D'Anna and wife, Michele of Deerfield, NH.; nieces, Kim (D'Anna) Pierce and husband, Capt. Dennis Pierce of Andover, Lisa (D'Anna) McNaughton and husband, Ken of Goffstown, NH, and Linda D'Anna of Rochester, NH.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 13 10 a.m.. at St. Edward's Church, Medfield, immediately followed by a mercy meal at The Chateau Restaurant in Norwood. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Brigham and Women's Hospital and designated to The Thornton House.The Thornton House is a home away from home for Mesothelioma patients and their families.
