Ruth A. (Joly)'s Story
Ruth A. (Joly) Maciak, age 91, a former long time resident of Merrimac and Newburyport, passed peacefully at the Wingate at Haverhill on September 5, 2017.
Born in Salem, Mass., on January 17, 1926, Ruth was the daughter of the late David E. Joly and the late Annie (Tellardin) Joly Weber and attended Salem public schools.
Prior to her retirement, she enjoyed working at the Andover Inn on the campus of Phillips Andover Academy. Ruth lived her life with a positive attitude, holding on to her most favorite saying, “You get back what you give out.” She embraced life with a tremendous sense of humor and her hearty, contagious laughter. This is the legacy she leaves behind for her family, along with a lifetime of loving, giving and caring. She will also be remembered for her love of Cocker Spaniels, Pussywillows and Black Eyed Susans.
Ruth will be missed by her daughter, Gretchen Hildebrandt of Haverhill; her son, Michael Maciak and his wife, Kim of Alton, N.H.; her son, David Maciak and his wife, Joan of Las Vegas, Nev.; a grandson, Jeffrey Maciak of Somerville; a brother, Dr. Ralph Joly and his wife, Karen of Kentucky; and a sister, Linda Joly Bollinger of Boston; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to being predeceased by her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Donald Joly of Las Vegas and David Joly of Geislingen, Germany.
The Maciak family would like to thank the staff of the Wingate at Haverhill nursing home for their loving care and kindness.
Services will be private, and donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452, or the MSPCA-Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. Arrangements were entrusted to Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA.
