Shirley I.'s Story

Shirley I. (Kaulback) Saunders, 92, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on October 13, 2017. She was the wife of the late Charles O. Saunders, Jr.
Born in Haverhill on October 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Herbert V. and Hilda V. (Ball) Kaulback.
Mrs. Saunders graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1942. Her work career began as a cashier at the Former Taylor- Goodwin Co. Following its closing she worked many years as a secretary at the local Teamster’s office.
Mrs. Saunders enjoyed handcrafts to include knitting and crocheting, and playing bridge and cribbage with family and friends. She had a particular passion for the old TV westerns which she followed for many years. Mrs. Saunders and her husband were fortunate to have been able to travel abroad on many occasions.
Mrs. Saunders is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Judson and her husband Carl of Groveland; grandchildren, Carl J. Judson, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Florida and Daniel C. Judson of Groveland; great-granddaughters, Abigail Judson and Steffanie Judson of Palm Bay, Fla. She was the sister of the late Natalie M. Kizirian. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Penacook Place and Merrimack Valley Hospice for the kindness and compassionate care provided Mrs. Saunders.
Funeral arrangements by Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill, will be private and at the convenience of her family. Interment at the family lot at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Saunders’s name may be made to the Resident Activity Fund, c/o Penacook Place, 150 Water St., Haverhill, MA 01830, or the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. #9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
