Shirley Rita (Therrien)'s Story
Shirley Rita (Therrien) Martin, 85, of Methuen, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017, at MI Nursing/Restorative Center in Lawrence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of George Martin, with whom she celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary in August.
Shirley was born in Lawrence on November 3, 1932, the daughter of Wilfred and Louise (Dubois) Therrien. She graduated from St. Anne’s High School in Lawrence and worked various part time jobs. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa’s Church, where she was a member of the Socialites. She loved camping and traveling with her husband. Together, they traveled to 45 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and throughout Canada and Europe. She enjoyed music, was an avid reader, and bowled for over 30 years. Most of all, she cherished being at home and spending time with her family.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her husband, George; three children, Maureen LaRivee and her husband, Lee of Bradford, George Martin and his long-time companion, Gwen Martone of Methuen, and Kevin Martin and his wife, Rebecca of Pelham, N.H.; four grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Laura, and Alyssa; her great-grandson, Jake; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Shirley’s life by gathering for her calling hours on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa’s Church, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
