Sister Eleanor's Story
Sister Eleanor Finn, 88, a Sister of Mercy for 61 years, died Saturday, November 18, 2017, after a brief illness. A native of North Andover, Mass., she was the daughter of the late John T. and Mary (Driscoll) Finn.
Sister Eleanor held a B.S.Ed. degree in education from Bridgewater Teachers College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and an M.S.Ed. degree in education from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. A dedicated educator, she taught mathematics for 33 years at the former Mount St. Mary High School in Nashua, N.H. She especially enjoyed her contact with the international students in the boarding school. She also taught math at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, and was an instructor at the former Castle College in Windham, N.H. For a short time, Sister Eleanor served as assistant bookkeeper at Warde Health Center (now Warde Rehabilitation and Nursing Center) in Windham. She also enjoyed working part time in the gift shop at Searles Castle in Windham.
Sister Eleanor is survived by her brother, Thomas Finn of North Andover; nieces and nephews; and the members of her Sisters of Mercy community.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary Finn.
Friends may call at Warde Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, NH, on Friday, November 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Waverly Road, North Andover, MA.
