Susan "Susie"'s Story
Susan (Susie) McLaughlin, 70, of Georgetown, Mass., passed away July 7, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Reverend James (Jim) McLaughlin, to whom she had been married for 49 years. She was the beloved mother of James, Jason, Joel, Jesse, Betsie, Jon-Mark, Corrie, Natalie, Jacob, Jovani and Christie (and recently, Rachel Zhang). She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and countless other “chosen family members” who remember her as sister, mom, aunt and friend. Susie was born on November 4, 1946, to Fred and Dorothy Gnade in Hackensack, N.J., where she spent most of her childhood until moving to New Hampshire. She attended Glen Cove Bible College and served alongside Jim in ministry from the beginning of their marriage in 1968. In addition to raising her 11 children, Susie poured herself into serving the Lord and others through ministry at Children’s Haven (1968 to 1971), First Baptist Church of East Long Meadow (1971 to 1974), First Baptist Church of Weymouth (1974 to 1978), Beans Corner Baptist Church (1978 to 1988) and New Life Community Church of Georgetown (1988 to present). Susie also volunteered faithfully at Pregnancy Care Centers and in the ministry of Joni and Friends New England.
Susie embodied the Joy of the Lord and always opened her heart and her home to everyone she met. Her home was a gathering place for innumerable family celebrations of every variety. She went out of her way to make sure that everyone who came into her home knew that they were appreciated and loved. Susie loved to give beautiful gifts, and indeed, for all who knew her- SHE was the gift. Her smile, laughter, words of encouragement and joy were a blessing everywhere she went.
Family and friends are kindly invited to visiting hours on Friday, July 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at New Life Community Church, 186 East Main St., Georgetown, MA. Her life will be honored and celebrated at a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 15, at 1 p.m. at the Hampton Falls Baptist Church, 3 Lincoln Ave., Hampton Falls, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Joni and Friends New England or Operation Mobilization International. The Conte - Giamberardino Family Funeral Home has been entrusted to Susan's care. For florists or accommodations, please visit www.cgfuneralhomegeorgetown.com.
