Thomas's Story

MARSHFIELD- Thomas W. Fitzgerald of Marshfield, died peacefully on Wednesday February 14, 2018 after a long illness.
Tom was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ellen (Carey) and Joseph Fitzgerald. He graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory School and Fordham University where he earned a BS in Physics. He served in the U.S. Army as a signal corpsman stationed in Germany. He was a quality control engineer, specializing in high yields of thin film and large wafer technology. Later in his career, he was involved in the development of fiber optic connectors. He retired from GTE after a 25+ year career.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Florence, their children, Joseph, Catherine (Ron), Patsy (Jimmy), Eileen (James), Rosemarie (James), Judy (John), Jane (Steven) and Clare (James), 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Patricia (James) and his brother, Joseph (Edith); his sister-in-law, Mary Louise Ambrose and many nieces, nephews, and cousins both here and in Ireland. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary, and his parents.
Tom will be remembered for his beautiful wood creations, innovations, wisdom, compassion and his love of sailing. His largest legacy and greatest love was his family. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street Marshfield, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 9 a.m. at St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street Marshfield, MA with burial to follow in Couch Cemetery Marshfield.
