Salem, NH - William J. McDonald, 86, of Salem, N.H., passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, with his loving family by his side at the Cedar View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen, Mass.
William, "Bill" as he liked to be called, was born on November 13, 1932, to William J. and Mary Ann McDonald in Ballardvale, Mass. He attended Lawrence schools and graduated from Central Catholic High School. In August of 1973 he married the love of his life, Merrianne McDonald. They brought together their blended family of three boys and a girl.
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was very proud to be a Marine and proud to be an American. Bill was retired from Western Electric after his illness began in 1987.
Before retirement Bill loved to exercise daily, was a full brown belt in Karate, loved his TV, he loved attending shows with his special needs sons he cared for, loved his American flag, and our mountain vacations.
He loved his church. He was so upset when his illness prevented him from going. All he asked for was church and family time with his four children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Bill always told them not to touch his fudgesicles. Bill loved eating out, especially at the old Denny's and T-Bones, he wouldn't go anywhere else. Bill also enjoyed long Sunday rides.
He welcomed in his family and eventually took in all but two of his grandkids, animals and all. Recently, when Auntie Linda was alone we took her in. It was a blessing from God with all Bill's illnesses.
His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Merrianne (Stickney) McDonald; children, Wendy and her husband Robert Warren of Wilmington, Mass., Paul Iannazzo and his wife Mary Anne Iannazzo of Salem, N.H., Michael McDonald of Derry, N.H., and William McDonald of Hooksett, N.H.; grandchildren, Christopher M. and Matthew W. McDonald of Salem, N.H., whom Bill raised, Justin Iannazzo of Salem, N.H., whom lives in the family home, Kaitlyn and her wife Danielle Colella of Litchfield, N.H., Kelsey and her husband Matt Johnson of Farmington, N.H., Nick Iannazzo of Salem, N.H., Shawn and his wife Tonia Iannazzo of Farmington, N.H., and Paul J. and his wife Ashley McPherson of Litchfield, N.H.; five great-grandchildren, Rhylee, Zoie-Ann, Cali, Karlee, and Callum; Bill's aunt, Linda Courtemanche; and many relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their thanks for the love and compassion that Bill received from Cedarview Nursing Home of Methuen, Mass., and Constellation Health Services of Newburyport, Mass.
