Anna F. (Balcius) Bogacz, 98, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Penacook Place, Haverhill. Anna was born in East Vandergrift, Pa. She was the daughter of Konstantas Balcius and Franciska (Micewicz), and widow of Andrew Bogacz, Sr.
Anna and her family moved to their family farm in Lithuania when she was one year old. At the age of 18, she returned to the United States just as World War II began and worked as a weaver in the Pacific Mill in Lawrence. She met Andrew prior to his World War II deployment to Europe with the Third Armored Division, and subsequently wed him after Andrew returned.
Anna was a housewife until her children went to school and then worked with her husband in the family owned business, the G.I. Market, at the corner of Park and Walnut Streets in Lawrence. After 30 years of operation, the store was sold, and Anna went to work at ITT in Lawrence and then Raytheon in Andover and Lowell until her retirement.
Anna loved crocheting, knitting, and embroidery. She has passed many of her beautiful creations down to her children and grandchildren. Anna also loved gardening. Her favorite seasons were spring and summer when she could plant and nurture her flowers. Anna loved dancing and danced with the Haverhill Senior Center Line Dancers until she was 98. She stepped down from dancing when she became ill in November, 2016. She suffered a stroke and other complications in April, 2017.
She is survived by her children, Andrew Bogacz, Jr. and his wife, Victoria of Wakefield, N.H., Edward Bogacz and his wife, Maria of Haverhill; and niece, Wieslawa Wrobel of Braintree, Mass.; her five cherished grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
