Carol A. (Scott)'s Story
It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of Carol A. (Scott) Porter, 60, mourn her unexpected passing. Carol lived for the past 17 years in Chester, N.H., but moved to Windham, N.H. in June, where she died suddenly on Friday at her home.
Carol was born in Haverhill, Mass., grew up in Bradford, Mass., and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1974. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in 1986 and a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Boston University in 1992. For the past 22 years, she operated a private counseling practice in Salem, N.H., dedicating herself to helping families and individuals cope with a wide range of difficult life issues. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
Prior to living in Chester, N.H., Carol spent a dozen years as a resident of Derry, N.H., and before that, she lived in Plaistow, N.H.
Outside of work, Carol loved spending time with her family. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling with them to the White Mountains for camping and skiing, and to the seacoast for swimming and sunbathing. When her children were younger, she loved traveling throughout New England to watch them compete in premier soccer leagues. One of her favorite memories was of a family vacation to Italy in 2012, during which she and her family visited Rome, Venice, and the Amalfi coast. More recently, Carol had developed a passion for snowshoeing and biking.
Carol was the daughter of the late Charles and Martha (McCourt) Scott. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Jr. and Robert Scott.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Stephen Porter; her son, Drew and his wife, Jordan Porter of Philadelphia; her daughter, Kelsey Porter, who is currently working and living in New Zealand; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd., Windham, NH. The family will hold a private burial service at the Great Hill Cemetery in Chester, N.H.
