Dorothy T.'s Story
Dorothy T. (Gilmore) Beal, 88, of Salem, N.H., passed away Monday, August 21st at Warde Health Center. Dot was a lifelong Salem resident and she graduated from Woodbury High School. She was an active member of First Congregational Church, where she was a Deaconess, sang in the choir and was past President of the Philathea Class. Dot was the longest attending member of the church and had been a member for 69 years.
She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of VFW Post #8546 and a member of Rockingham Rubies Red Hatters. Dot was a talented Japanese Bunka embroidery artist and she won many awards for her artwork. She enjoyed playing the organ and teaching an exercise class at the Ingram Senior Center. Dot was a hair stylist and owned Dot’s Beauty Shop.
Dot is survived by her children, Jane Beal-Costello and husband, Michael and Robert Beal, Jr. and wife, Deborah; her grandchildren, Robert Beal, III and wife, Julie, James Beal and wife, Kathryn and Courtney McAuliffe; her great grandchildren, Jameson and Lila Beal; her sister, Gloria Adams of California and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Emily (Dube) and Daniel Gilmore, Dot was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert Beal, Sr. and her sisters, Lillian Johnston, Evelyn Huggins and Geraldine Griffin.
Visitation will be Monday, August 28th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, N.H.
The Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, N.H.
Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to charity of one’s choice.
