Edith's Story

Edith Shirley Narbonne, 79, of Harwich Port, Mass., affectionately known as “Edie” and “Duffy," passed away peacefully on September 5, 2017, at Liberty Commons Nursing home in Chatham, Mass.
Edith was born December 31, 1937, in Methuen to James Allen and Salome (Larrivee) Allen. She is survived by her six children, William Narbonne, Kevin Narbonne (Jamie), Gary Narbonne (Michelle), Linda Borges (Robert), Shirley Narbonne, and Cheryl Hurley (Dustin); 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The youngest of 10 children, Edith is also survived by her brother, Harold Allen, and sister, Doris Allen, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William Narbonne; sisters, Ruth Bolduc, and Gertrude Andrews; and brothers, Kenneth, Ernest, Donald, Warren, and Robert.
Edith was a sweet, strong, and caring person who was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother for most of her life. She tirelessly and lovingly cared for her family, always putting their needs before her own. She loved taking scenic drives with her husband, walking the beach, gardening, birdwatching, card games, reading, watching the Red Sox, and most of all, making memories with her family.
The family of Edith Narbonne would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the loving care and support that the staff at Liberty Commons and Broad Reach Hospice has shown their mother and family over the last three years.
Calling hours will be held September 16, 2017, at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main Street, West Harwich, MA 02671, from 1 to 3 p.m. A Celebration of Life memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m.
